The Collector: Fruitful Fall Issue - November

Fruitful Fall Issue - November

This month, we’re in the fruit bowl. November’s parcel is for the season that gets written off too early.

The second the weather cools off, it can feel like time’s up. No more growing, no more chasing goals, just the slow season. But did you know November is actually one of the most fruitful times of the year? Kumquats, grapefruit, pomegranates, persimmons, and so much more are ripe right now.

When I was little, we lived in a house with a pomegranate tree. For the longest time we thought it was just a short, scrawny little thing that barely had leaves. We walked past it for months and honestly started to ignore it. Then one fall day, we noticed a few pomegranates. It became one of our favorite trees, and we never saw it as insignificant again.

Our work during the year can be that tree. We see it every day and forget that one day it will give fruit. So take some time to look at your own fruitful season, see where your work has paid off, and carry that encouragement into the new one.

I’ll be honest, after almost a year of exploring, I think I’m finally honing in on a style that feels good and feels like me. I’m still exploring, but I’m heading into a season of really focusing on who I am as an artist, and this issue is me sharing that. With so much going on in the world, focusing on the good and the fruit of our lives is a pretty great way to live a fuller life. Come rest, soak it all up, and dream up next year with us.
